A Society that cares for Dogs more than Babies

This blogger is spot on: what does it say about us as a society that we are more enraged about dog-fighting than baby-killing?  Nothing shows the absurdity of the modern morass of amorality than this.  It hit home with me this week because the local newspaper used its front page to tackle local instances of kennels breeding dogs for fighting.  Just think of all the airtime that the whole Michael Vick case has been given as well as the moral outrage towards him.  I’m not for dog-fighting but I do have my priorities in place and I believe in the supreme value of human life.

And if you are one those who happen to believe that humans and animals are NOT distinct and that humans are just another animal species, you need to answers some questions raised by my good friend Jason Dulle.

Ah, fascinating subject and one I think of at least 3.5 times a day.

Your friend Jason Dulle offers nothing more than a human’s point of view that a human’s point of view is more potent than an animals. Which is absolutely correct. But only because we live atop the food chain. When a mako shark shreds a man off the coast of North Carolina, that shark is more valuable than that man. At least in the shark’s point of view.

Inasmuch as abortion is concerned, there is no question the liberal side pretends it’s less than it is. It really is death. It really is killing. It really is taking a human life. That being said, I don’t believe human life—or any life—is sacred. Quite fragile? Certainly. So much so that it probably feels sacred to those alive. Just as a diamond seems valuable, if only because of its rarity.

Interesting side note, I grew up in a culture/area that accepted dog fighting and I attended more than one. The dogs, for the most part, love the combat.
